- 1.Nadia has £84. She spends 3/7 of it on a jacket and the rest on a bag. Work out the ratio of the amount spent on the jacket to the amount spent on the bag, in its simplest form.
- 2.A train leaves Leeds at 14:35. The journey takes 1 hour 50 minutes. Work out the time the train arrives. Give your answer using the 24-hour clock.
- 3.Work out 35% of 180.
- 4.Work out the lowest common multiple of 9 and 15.
- 5.A charity trek covers 830 miles over roughly 19 days. By rounding each number to 1 significant figure, work out an estimate for the number of miles walked per day.

- 7.In a classroom the ratio of boys to girls is 3 : 4. What fraction of the class are boys?
- 8.A recipe needs 0.485 kg of flour per cake. A bakery estimates its flour order by rounding this amount to 1 significant figure, then multiplying by the 60 cakes it plans to bake. Work out the bakery's estimate for the total flour needed, in kg.
- 9.A water tank holds 80 litres when full. It currently contains 60 litres. Work out what fraction of the tank is empty.
- 10.A square petri dish has an area of 121 mm². A scientist wants to know its side length. Work out the side length of the dish.
- 11.A metal cube has a mass of 540 g and a volume of 60 cm³. Work out its density in g/cm³.
- 12.A student writes 0.08 as the fraction 8/10, reading the 8 as if it stood in the tenths column and ignoring the zero. Work out the correct fraction that 0.08 is equal to, giving your answer in its simplest form.
- 13.Work out −7 − (−3).
- 14.A sponsored walk raised £350 for charity. 20% of the money raised is spent on equipment. Work out how much is spent on equipment.
- 15.A van has a mass of 2,000 kg, correct to 1 significant figure. Using m for the mass of the van in kilograms, write down the error interval for m.
