- 1.Work out 5/6 × 2/9, giving your answer in its simplest form.
- 2.Grace buys three items costing £9.95, £19.90 and £4.99. Work out an estimate for the total cost, by rounding each price to the nearest pound.
- 3.A gym increases its membership price by 1/5. The original price is £60. Work out the new price.
- 4.A circle has a diameter of 10 cm. Work out the exact circumference of the circle, in terms of π.
- 5.A number is multiplied by 4, then 8 is added, giving the result 40. Work out the number.
- 6.The number of visitors to a museum on Saturday is given as 1,800, correct to the nearest 100. Which of these could not be the actual number of visitors?
- 7.A café orders 340 bread rolls at 24p each and 85 cakes at £1.35 each. Work out the total cost of the order.
- 8.Work out −6 × (−3).
- 9.For any two whole numbers, the product of the numbers is equal to the product of their highest common factor and their lowest common multiple. The highest common factor of 6 and 8 is 2, and 6 × 8 = 48. Work out the lowest common multiple of 6 and 8.
- 10.A box stands on a table. The box exerts a force of 240 N on the table, and the base of the box has an area of 0.8 m². Work out the pressure the box exerts on the table, in N/m².
- 11.Two fair six-sided dice are rolled and their scores are added together. By listing the possible totals systematically, work out how many different totals are possible.
- 12.A concrete mix is made from cement and sand in the ratio 3 : 5 by mass. A builder mixes 96 kg of concrete. Work out the mass of cement in the mix.
- 13.A spinner has 4 colours and a coin has 2 sides. Work out how many different outcomes are possible when the spinner is spun once and the coin is tossed once.

- 15.The thickness of a sheet of card is 0.02384 cm. Write this thickness correct to 2 significant figures.
