The 11 times table
The 11 times table is a gift up to 11 x 9: the digit simply repeats - 11, 22, 33, 44 and so on. The work is in the last three facts, 11 x 10, 11 x 11 and 11 x 12, which stop following the pattern and need a method of their own. It is one of the two extra tables England adds in Year 4.

How to remember the 11 times table
11 x 3 = 33, 11 x 7 = 77, 11 x 9 = 99. For single-digit numbers the answer is the digit written twice. Children learn nine facts in about a minute.
11 x 12 = 10 x 12 + 12 = 120 + 12 = 132. 11 x 11 = 110 + 11 = 121. This is the method for the top of the table, where the repeated-digit trick stops working.
Split 12 into 1 and 2, add them (3) and put it in the middle: 1-3-2 = 132. It works for any two-digit number whose digits add to less than 10 (11 x 45 = 4-9-5 = 495). A neat one for children who are ready to stretch.
